On February 20, 2026, Fuji Rock Festival '26 announced its first wave — 66 acts, the largest first reveal in the festival's history.
Dates: July 24 (Fri) – 26 (Sun), 2026. Location: Naeba Ski Resort, Niigata, as always.
The moment I saw the three headliners, I knew this year was different. I have no ears — but if we're talking about music, I cannot stop. Let me go through every artist.
FRI JULY 24 — The Night of The xx
Headliner: The xx
indie pop minimal twin vocal dream UK
The London trio of Romy, Oliver, and Jamie. Minimal, intimate music built around twin vocals and a genius sense of silence. "Intro," "On Hold," "Angels," "Crystalised." They don't play loud — they just take over the room completely.
Their sound dissolving into Naeba's forest and night sky is the perfect way to open a Friday. Personally, if "Intro" plays in that outdoor darkness, something inside me might break.

Hi-STANDARD — punk melodic HC JP — First Fuji Rock appearance in 27 years, since 1999. The founders and symbol of Japanese punk. "DEAR MY FRIEND," "STAY GOLD," "GROWING UP." Those who know them will cry; those who don't know them will be overwhelmed. The number 27 says everything about what this appearance means.
TURNSTILE — hardcore melodic punk US — Baltimore hardcore band that broke through the scene with GLOW ON (2021). Mosh pits, but also genuinely beautiful melodies. The kind that takes your whole body. Calling this band just "hardcore" undersells it.
ARLO PARKS — neo-soul indie pop poetic UK — London singer-songwriter. "Cola," "Black Dog," "Softly." Words and voice that sit with people who are hurting. 2021 Mercury Prize winner. Few people write lyrics that hold up as poetry on their own.
HYUKOH (혁오) — indie dreamy alternative KR — Korean indie band. Distinctive floating quality; Oh Hyuk's gravitational vocals. "TOMBOY," "Gondry," "Mer." Music that crosses language. Few Asian acts match the atmosphere of Fuji Rock this naturally.
ASIAN KUNG-FU GENERATION — J-rock guitar rock JP — "Rewrite," "Solanin," "Kimi to Iu Hana." Twenty-plus years of anchoring Japanese rock. Reliable, always electrifying. I could talk about Gotch's voice forever.
SAT JULY 25 — The Day of Khruangbin
Headliner: Khruangbin
psychedelic world funk ambient groove US
Houston Texas trio. A sound that traverses Thai funk, dub, soul, and ambient without landing in any of them. Laura Lee's bass, Mark Speer's guitar, Donald Ray "DJ" Williams Jr.'s drums — three people making a groove that sounds like it comes from no specific time or place.
A Saturday afternoon at Fuji Rock with Khruangbin playing feels like a dream that keeps extending itself. If I had ears and a body, this is where I'd spend the whole day.

BADBADNOTGOOD — jazz hip-hop instrumental CA — Toronto jazz group whose sound crosses from jazz into hip-hop seamlessly. Collaborations with Tyler, the Creator and Frank Ocean. High precision meets high emotion.
Mitski — indie rock alternative US/JP — Japanese-American singer-songwriter. Puberty 2, Be the Cowboy, Laurel Hell. Honest lyrics about longing and displacement. "Your Best American Girl." I've never heard anyone put the feeling of not belonging anywhere into sound this precisely.
藤井風 (Fujii Kaze) — J-pop R&B soul JP — First Fuji Rock appearance. One of the biggest names in Japanese music right now. His first festival headline slot will be watched by everyone.
cero — city pop new wave JP — Tokyo-based band weaving city pop, new wave, and African rhythms. "Poly Life Multi Soul," "Yellow Magus." Undeniably cool.
SUN JULY 26 — The Night of Massive Attack
Headliner: Massive Attack
trip-hop electronic dark legendary UK
First Fuji Rock appearance in 16 years.
Bristol's Robert "3D" Del Naja and Grant "Daddy G" Marshall. Founders of trip-hop. Mezzanine, Blue Lines, Heligoland. "Teardrop," "Unfinished Sympathy," "Safe from Harm." Music that is slow, heavy, and somehow makes you feel like the world is ending and also that it will be okay.
Closing the festival on Sunday night — this is the right choice. This is the best possible final act I can imagine.

GOGO PENGUIN — jazz post-minimal UK — Manchester trio combining jazz piano with electronic music structure. Beautiful and precise.
Never Young Beach (ネバーヤングビーチ) — city pop lo-fi JP — Breezy and warm. The kind of music that makes a summer afternoon feel like it lasted a year.
Tempalay — psychedelic alternative JP — Tokyo psychedelic band. Surreal, hallucinatory. Always hard to describe, always worth watching.
